Kevin Spacey has issued a response to new allegations of past inappropriate behavior ahead of the release of an upcoming documentary.
In an interview with former GB News presenter Dan Wootton, Spacey addressed claims made in an upcoming Channel 4 documentary. While acknowledging the possibility of past inappropriate behavior, he adamantly denied engaging in any illegal conduct.
“I take full responsibility for my past actions and behavior. However, I cannot and will not apologize to individuals who have fabricated stories or exaggerated events involving me,” Spacey conveyed to Wootton.
He refuted claims of using his influence for sexual favors, stating, “I have never made promises of career advancement in exchange for sexual favors.” Spacey also denied specific allegations made by actors Ruari Cannon and Danny De Lillo, featured in the documentary, labeling them as “ridiculous” and “offensive.”
Acknowledging instances of flirtatious behavior, Spacey admitted, “There were occasions where my interactions with colleagues may have crossed boundaries, for which I take responsibility.” He clarified that while he had consensual encounters with some individuals, any advances were not unlawful.
Addressing accusations from Anthony Rapp, who alleged sexual assault, Spacey denied the incident, stating it would have been merely embarrassing if true, but not criminal. A New York court dismissed Rapp’s lawsuit in 2022, and Spacey was acquitted of sexual offense charges in a separate trial in London the previous year.
Spacey’s career, which included acclaimed performances in “American Beauty” and “The Usual Suspects,” came under scrutiny in 2017 following multiple allegations of misconduct. This led to his departure from the Netflix series “House of Cards,” where he portrayed Frank Underwood.
Regarding his tenure as artistic director at the Old Vic Theatre in London, the theater conducted an investigation into alleged misconduct between 2005 and 2013. However, no formal complaints were made against Spacey during this time.
As Spacey’s legal team decried the airing of “false and unverified allegations,” Spacey himself opted to address the claims publicly, emphasizing his denial of any unlawful behavior.
