The Duke of Sussex made a brief visit to the UK, attending a service at St Paul’s Cathedral in London to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, a sporting event for injured service personnel which he founded. Concurrently, the King, currently undergoing cancer treatment, greeted the public at a Buckingham Palace garden party nearby, with no plans for a meeting between the two.
Prince Harry, warmly received by a crowd outside St Paul’s, delivered a Bible reading inside the cathedral, emphasizing diversity of gifts and strengths. He was joined by his uncle, Earl Spencer, among others. The service, reminiscent of royal traditions, reflected a personal significance for Prince Harry, underscored by emotional readings and hymns.
Despite his legal battles over security during UK visits, Prince Harry was escorted by City of London police. Notably absent were other royal family members, drawing attention to their absence in media coverage. Prince Harry’s last in-person meeting with the King was shortly after the monarch’s cancer announcement in February.
The Duke’s spokesperson clarified that due to the King’s busy schedule, a meeting with his father wasn’t possible during this visit. Prince Harry also isn’t anticipated to meet the Prince or Princess of Wales, both undergoing cancer treatment. He expressed understanding for his father’s commitments and hopes for a future meeting.
During his visit, Prince Harry attended an Invictus Games summit, reflecting on the event’s global impact. The Duchess of Sussex didn’t accompany him on this trip but is scheduled to join him in Nigeria, where he’ll travel next after London. They were invited by Nigeria’s chief of defence staff after their meeting at last year’s Invictus Games in Germany.
